Thousand Oaks Eichler Stay
We recently had the privilege of staying in a 1964 Eichler Home in the Thousand Oaks tract a few nights. This was the second Eichler Home we have been fortunate enough to stay in as we documented our Lucas Valley trip last year.
The homes in this tract were designed by famed architect (and firms), Claude Oakland, and Jones & Emmons. The tract was built between 1964 and 1967. We stayed in an atrium model with a one car garage, carport, and central atrium. It was a thrill to say the least.
An aggregate entryway for the books...
Our host Dicle designed the restoration for the home. When her and her family purchased the house years back it was in poor shape. They drastically updated necessary characteristics while staying true to the original intent of Claude Oakland and Joseph Eichler. Furniture choices and specific design elements all played into the rehab. The results were stunning!
In our own home we are always chasing the shadows. It was no different at the Thousand Oaks Eichler.
If the interior of the home was breathtaking the back yard was a pure heart attack...
Looking up the hill in the back...
Looking down the hill from the top of the Conejo Valley!
A Euphorbia fantasy...
One of the luxuries of staying in an Eichler Home is walking the Eichler Tract. While the Thousand Oaks tract only has about 120 homes, we were able to scour the neighborhood in just a couple walks with our one year old.
While majority of the Thousand Oaks Eichlers were intact and maintaining original aesthetic, there was one that had been flipped upside down, around, and built back up (literally). Adding a second story to any original mid-century modern home is somewhat of a sin in our book. What can ya' do?
You can't let one bad apple ruin the bunch though...
We always love a good mailbox & address number...
When your community library box matches your home, that's a flex!
And of course we appreciate all the dry gardens and xeriscapes throughout the neighborhood...
It's always nice to see a neighborhood on the right side of things...
We had an awesome stay in Thousand Oaks. During our trip we visited The Eames House and a couple botanical gardens (coming soon to The Feed). However we made sure to hunker down at the house as much as possible. It was an absolute pleasure calling this place home for a few days. Until next time Thousand Oaks!
